The original collection of embryos from Africa comprised genetics from the studs of T S Botha, H B Groenwald, P W Henderson, P B Botha and D Pascall.

During the five and a half years of ‘closed breeding' in the quarantine years, an enforced breeding selection was imposed. The quarantine regulations dictated that a set number of progeny must be bred from each animal whilst resources and the space in the facility dictated the number of animals that were able to be maintained. This meant that selection and culling was conducted at a level far greater than would occur in the normal course of events. However distasteful this was at the time, in retrospect, a number of undesirable traits were completely eradicated, eg poor pigmentation, unsound legs etc.

Since then ABS has returned to Africa on a number of occasions and blood lines have been added from the studs of Nico Botha, Jackie Jordaan, Dawie van Zyl, Boetie Malan, Lukas Burger, Danie Schoeman and, most recently, Dirk Louw. The original Terraweena animals, hardy in the extreme, were then infused, post quarantine and periodically thereafter, with modern day South African genetics. As was intended, this has resulted in an exceptional line of animals bred to a type.

In 1997 Geof and Celia travelled to Africa to select donors for a new genetic infusion. To assist in accessing new bloodlines they also purchased, from Dawie Van Zyl, a half share in Worcester, World Grand Champion Buck 1996 - 1998 for use in an embryo collection program. Worcester himself was not permitted entry into Australia but a successful embryo collection ensured that his genes were transferred to Terraweena, Australia where his progeny bears testimony to his greatness.

Another of the stud's most influential genetic infusions was the result of an extensive AI program carried out on a top line of Terraweena females in 2002. The sire used for this insemination was Karbo Lawrence U58. Lawrence, who tragically died soon afterwards, originated from the stud of Lukas Burger in South Africa. Lawrence has enhanced the uniformity of our stud in a style fully in keeping with the Terraweena type. Bucks and does from his blood line are prized Terraweena breeders and regular ribbon winners at all the prominent shows.

Terraweena has established a solid reputation, world wide for the supply of reliable animals that breed true whilst still maintaining the hardiness and mothering ability that is paramount in successful breeding. The stock is run on a relatively broad acre basis. Our main objective is the volume supply of quality animals for the establishment of Boer goat enterprises in other countries. However, we are careful to maintain a domestic presence in the show ring to ensure a balance exists between volume production for export and quality animals for Australian breeders.
